Retirement

So... You know how a mobile phone behaves when the battery is on its last legs? This is how I feel at the moment. I charge up overnight, have the promise of a full battery sign, and then conk out mid-way through a call an hour later!

I feel like I'm getting a bit of a taste of what my retirement is going to be like. I've been told by the physiotherapist that I need to have another 4 weeks off as if I go back to an active job too soon I'm in danger of wrecking all the work they've done...this came as a bit of a shock as I think I'd convinced myself I'd have a quick recovery and could make my incredibly active job more sedentary (it's basically impossible!) However, my amazing colleague has worked out ways for me to stay involved in a 'training my cover musicians' capacity at certain sessions and to do some work from home too. So... I just need to pace myself and recharge the rubbish battery by sleeping/watching TV every couple of hours. I did too much yesterday by making the mistake of crutching my way to the post office in the morning to pay in a cheque AND going to a cafe with Phil in the afternoon in the car... What was I thinking?! 2 activities in one day? Ah ... I used to be able to do 10 activities on a day... I remember it well. I was very low and miserable in the evening though the ham and cheese sauce that Phil cooked for dinner helped a lot :-)

So... To keep things lower key today I have finished knitting my scarf. It involves knitting, purling, ribbing (with a bit of help from my neighbour Meg) some stitches I invented myself... And the
occasional hole. I also increased the amount of stitches (accidentally!) and decreased them at the end (deliberately!) Very impressed with myself and very grateful to Sophie for sending me the tools!

I also upcycled some old candles.. Into... Er.. candles! I had loads of candles that had lots of wax left but rubbish wicks so I melted them down and remade them with new wicks!

It's provided a great feeling of accomplishment... And even though its far too light I've lit some of them and am sitting with my scarf on feeling very Hygge. And a bit hot if I'm completely honest.
